A native of Los Angeles, California, she attended University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for her undergraduate education. She then moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to attend medical school, graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1989.

Later, she began her residency in internal medicine at Methodist University Hospital, where she was chief resident. Dr. Myers then completed her fellowship in endocrinology, metabolism, and diabetes at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana.
